We are often praised for “pushing through”… for choosing the tough it out instead of giving up. We’ve been led to believe that this is what #resilience looks like.
It is rare to be rewarded for choosing to rest. Yet a period of rest and recovery is exactly what we need… what businesses need… to improve innovation, increase productivity, and sustain positive employee experiences.
Employers should both encourage and create space for rest and recovery.
By NOT prioritizing this critical stage, we’re making a harmful choice… the choice to obliterate our businesses. This is especially true for small to mid-sized businesses where every employee’s contribution is felt or alternately, missed when that employee is depleted from constantly churning out work without recharging.
Leaders, consider periods of rest and recovery for your teams. It’s not time wasted. It’s time well spent as the result is highly engaged employees whose work product creates your business’ competitive advantage.
